OS Maps API in ArcGIS Online

Existing users of Esri’s ArcGIS Online service can add a variety of layers to their maps, including web services that implement the OGC Web Map Tile Service specification (WMTS). Refer to the ArcGIS Online documentation for full details. This capability allows content from OS Maps API to be viewed in ArcGIS Online. The following step by step instructions describe how to do this:- 1. If you haven’t done so already, sign-up for access to OS Maps to obtain a valid API key. 2. Login to ArcGIS Online using your existing credentials. 3. Click on the Map option on the top menu 4. Click the **Add** icon on the menu bar and choose **Add layer from web** from the menu. 5. Choose **A WMTS OGC Web Service** and enter the following web address in the **URL** field, using your valid API key https://api2.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/mapping_api/v1/service/wmts?key=[[app:key]] 6. A list of available layers appears. Select the layer you want to add. You cannot select more than one layer. 7. If you want to use the layer as a basemap, check the **Use as Basemap** option. 8. Click **Add Layer** to add the OS Maps WMTS layer to your map If you get the following error message: [block:callout] { "type": "warning", "body": "The WMTS layer, <layer details>, can’t be added to the map because it does not support a coordinate system or tiling scheme that aligns with the basemap." } [/block] Click OK to close the error message and either:- * Check the **Use as Basemap** option. This will change the coordinate system of you ArcGIS Online map to that of the selected layer, or * Select a layer from the OS Maps WMTS service with the same coordinate system as your ArcGIS Online map. Refer to the [/wmts endpoint](doc:os-maps-wmts) documentation for details on the available coordinate systems.
